8 Quick Life Hacks for University Students

Adjusting to life at university on a tight budget can be pretty tough. Luckily, we’re here to help! Check out these useful tips and tricks you can use for an instant student money saver:

Can Tab Hangers

Maximise the space you have in your wardrobe by hooking the tab of a normal can onto a coat hanger. By placing the hanger through one hole of the tab and hooking another hanger through the second hole, you’ll have 2 items of clothing hanging for the hook space of 1!

DIY Speaker/Alarm

In need of a speaker for that last minute party? Look no further than your kitchen! Grab a bowl or glass and put your phone in it. You’ll have a quick (and free) solution to getting those tunes blared out! Also, if you need that extra encouragement to wake up in the morning, place your phone into a glass/bowl and set that alarm. By the time the alarm will go off, you’ll know!

Vertically Stacked Clothes

Sometimes it can be a struggle to fold all your clothes neatly into a drawer, and keep them that way. Save yourself the hassle with this neat little trick. Roll your clothes instead of folding them and stack them vertically. This will reduce creases and you’ll be able to get an overview of your clothes without having to take multiple items out!

Wooden Spoon for Boiling

Cooking pasta is a staple of student life. Cheap, quick and easy, it’s no surprise it’s such a popular dish to make. However, when the pan overboils, it can be a pain to clear up, not to mention the initial startle you get when you see the water overboiling. Save yourself the worry and place a wooden spoon across the top of the pan. This’ll stop the water overboiling!

Toilet Rolls Wire Storage

It can be quite stressful when you open up a drawer to find, or see scattered across your student room, wire after wire all tangled up. Try this super cheap and quick trick to organising your wire storage. Separate the individual wires, wrap them up around your hand and place them inside finished toilet rolls. Stack those rolls into a shoebox and you’ll have your very own wire storage station!

Walnut on Wood Scratches

Do you have any wooden furniture in your student room or student house that you’ve scratched? Try this nifty little trick. Get some walnuts, and rub them against the scratches. Wait for a few minutes, then grab a cloth and polish off the area. The scratch should be gone! It’s that simple, and will save you the worry of damages being taken off your deposit.

Washi Tape It Up!

So you want to hang some photos or posters up, but you’re scared of damages being added to your deposit. Not to worry, use the incredible invention that is Washi Tape! Coming in arrays of colours to brighten up your student room and leaving no marks to your walls, Washi Tape is the perfect solution to this dilemma. It’s cheap and super practical. Check out these awesome rolls.

Shoe Fresheners

Having fresh-smelling shoes is a nice touch to the general aroma of your student room/house. Save yourself the costs of specific shoe deodorisers and use tea bags! This multi-purpose trick will save you money and leave your shoes smelling super fresh!
